This page contains an educational resource called Flipgrid. You will see examples of how this resource can be used within the classroom to engage students.
Flip Grid is a website that teachers can use to facilitate video discussions. Each grid has a discussion board where teachers can pose a question and then students can post a video response to the discussion topic. This website is used to facilitate discussion on numerous topics and is a great resource for teachers to use to engage students.
Flipgrid can be a great resource used to assess your students. For example they can be given a reading assignment and you can prompt students to recall specific information about what they read by having them post a video response on the Flipgrid website. Their response to the prompt will allow you to asses their knowledge of the reading. In addition, this resource can be a way to check in with your students. For many students right now COVID has them distance learning and this tool can give them the opportunity to express their concerns with you. Finally, this resource is a way for students to express what they know about all content areas in a fun and creative way. In Flipgrid students can add pictures to their video, boarders and even emojis to enhance their video.
This Flipgrid is based from a video workshop I created. In the discussion I ask students to provide me with one study technique they want to try and why. This will allow them to learn ways to study and help me to assess whether the study technique they are using is helpful. Additionally, the workshop was designed to give students a brief overview of study techniques that do not work and for them to understand how individuals learn.
This Flipgrid is used as a way for me to get to know my students. They are asked to respond to all three topics which are an introduction about themselves, tell me about an emoji that best represents them and lastly what is their favorite music. I was able to search Flipgrid for premade discussion topics created by other educators and I used their topic posts to great my discussion grid.
